The author of this paper was a research scientist in the Eastman Kodak Research Laboratories in Rochester, NY for 42 years. This is a previously unpublished technical paper. A set of 119 color prints from negatives exposed by an untrained amateur was judged for "quality" by a panel of eight observers, intentionally selected for their different levels of photographic sophistication and emotional involvement with picture content. This experiment documents a strong dependence of judgment of picture quality on these attributes within the observer. The author of a Worthy Shorts® short story collection, (Finishing Touches, WS139), Zwick agreed to publish the short study as a scientific paper sampler.

Design template: This cover design is in the Classic mood using a simulated pebbled leather background. A number of background color choices are offered. The design uses a diamond-shaped ornamental border that is repeated in the interior pages. Jensen Pro, a contemporary treatment of a classic typeface, sets the tone for the Classic Monograph template used for this book.
