Page 3 - The Effects of Viewer Involvement

Abstract
A set of 119 color prints from negatives exposed by
an untrained amateur was judged for “quality” by a
panel of eight observers, intentionally selected for
their different levels of photographic sophistication
and emotional involvement in picture content. This
experiment documents a strong dependence of
judgment of picture quality on these attributes of
the observer.
