A Note on the Chapter Confguration

If you’ve visited The Shatkin Files you are no doubt aware that it is a blog and that, like other blogs, you can navigate through the posts by chronology and topic.

In this volume you will fnd that the content has been organized into chapters. The posts comprising each chapter are organized chron-ologically from oldest to newest so, for example, if you go to the chap-ter Agency Pricing you will fnd the seven posts that best pertained to this topic, starting with the oldest post (January 19th 2010) and ending with the most recent post (November 30th 2010).

The reasoning for this arrangement is that if you are reading this vol-ume you are most likely not looking for Mike’s take on the latest event in the publishing world but rather you are interested in reading what he has had to say with regards to a particular topic. In clustering the posts into chapters we hope to have made it easier for you to fnd the post or series of posts that cover the topics you are most interested in.

To create these chapters we began with the category tags used on the blog (each post is tagged with anywhere from one to over a dozen such tags), subtracted those that covered too many posts (one hundred or more) or too few (twenty or less) and tried to build the remaining category tags into chapters. After several rounds of shufing the posts and creating and breaking down the categories we arrived at what we think is the most logical set of chapter groupings.

Aside from the re-categorization none of the content here has been revised or removed. What you have here is the entirety of posts made in The Shatkin Files between February 2009 and February 2011.

A Note on the Comments

Readers of The Shatkin Files have and are encouraged to leave com-ments whenever they feel they have something to add to the conversa-tion. You will not fnd any of those comments in the following not be-cause they are not insightful and worthwhile but because they would have made what is already a large collection exponentially larger. If you come across a post on which you would like to comment you are encouraged to visit the post in question and do so.
