A message from our Graphic Services Directors

     Whatever your publishing objectives are, if you are planning a keepsake book that is primarily pictorial (photography, illustration, painting), or contains illustrations for which fidelity of reproduction is primary, image preparation and quality is critical to the quality of the printed outcome.
     Here are some caveats right from the start:
     (1) A high end, demand printing digital toner press in the hands of a qualified printer will deliver exactly the same outcome, based on the files that drive it, no matter how many copies you print or how many times you go back to press.
     (2) What you see on your computer screen may not be what you will get. A proof run of a single printed copy is essential before proceeding with the first printing.
     (3) When adjusted from the beginning to the type of toner press that will be used, your original scan settings, photo-shopping (or other pre-press tool) adjustments and file formats can assure a satisfying outcome.
     With that in mind, Worthy Shorts^® Graphic Services is for any author, photographer or artist for whom quality of work matters.
     Worthy Shorts^® Graphic Services offers consultation, image scanning, image adjustment and pre-press file preparation. We also have a network of graphic specialists available for special assignments when needed. How to use Worthy Shorts^® Graphics Services (WSGS)
Worthy Shorts^® does not provide graphic services as part of its publication service. WSGS is an independent service offered by Worthy Shorts^®. It is open only to registered Worthy Shorts^® authors. Click here to register as a Worthy Shorts^® author.
If you have not engaged your own professional graphic services, we recommend you contact WSGS before launching your new title into production. Here are our suggested steps:

(1) Visit the Worthy Shorts^® Design Gallery and select the design treatment you want to use.

(2) Click here for our Graphic Services Inquiry. Provide the information requested. Submit this form together with the other attachments requested on the Inquiry:
1. A single MS Word or Text file that contains
   (a) Your working title, subtitle (if any) and author by line
   (b) A table of contents
   (c) A list of any illustrations or figures you plan to include
   (d) Frontmatter, text and backmatter (if completed)
   (e) Include within the manuscript any captions, legends or insertion information for illustrations or figures

2. Using the list of illustrations above, provide a representative selection of FPO jpgs with a description of the condition of the original art and any scanned files.

(3) Based on the foregoing
(a) We may advise by e-mail further steps that we suggest you take
(b) We may request sample downloads on our FTP site of digital files or that you send insured sample originals. At that point we may contact you by phone or e-mail and advise you in advance whether any consultation is recommended before we submit a proposal.

(4) If we submit a proposal, you will receive an estimate of what is required and the cost, and a request for any further information we may require. Before we provide any graphic service we may furnish you with a sample treatment for which there will be a nominal charge in the event you decide not to proceed with the service.
